In the USA, there are approximately 97 million credit union members. Older Americans dominate. There are not nearly enough 18-to-24 year-old credit union members in their ranks. The importance of expanding the number of young adults in credit unions has become a priority matter. Our plans to develop stronger relationships with younger consumers have moved upward on the priority list.
What is the best way to add more young people to the ranks of our current 40,000 credit union members? Clearly, any recruiting strategy must be grounded in new technology. More specifically, it requires a mobile app strategy.
Young adults—future members of First Choice America—want speed and simplicity. In other words-- mobile banking! I am proud to announce that First Choice America Mobile is available. For a long number of years, we’ve been introducing the Ohio Valley’s youngsters to our credit union each summer by staging Cool Kids Fun Weeks at local parks. And we’ve continued to present seminars on “money matters” at our main office and participate in “Bank at School” programs at local elementary schools. By promoting financial literacy, our goal is to equip our young people with the basic financial knowledge needed as they begin their chosen careers.
